FAQs

What can I expect from counselling sessions?

Counselling provides a safe, non-judgemental space to explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges. Together, we’ll work to understand what’s holding you back, identify your goals, and develop strategies for positive change that feel right for you.

How long do counselling sessions typically last?

Sessions are 50 minutes long. This provides enough time to make meaningful progress while maintaining a focused and manageable space for reflection.

Is counselling confidential?

Yes, confidentiality is a key part of counselling. Everything you share stays private, in line with professional ethical guidelines. I’ll also explain any rare circumstances where confidentiality might need to be broken, such as safeguarding concerns, so you’re fully informed.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person. Some people feel better after just a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support. We’ll discuss your needs and create a plan that works best for you.

How frequently are sessions arranged?

Sessions are usually held weekly or fortnightly, depending on your schedule and preferences. Consistency is key to making progress, and we’ll find a rhythm that works for you.

How much do sessions cost?

  • Online sessions: £60 per 50 min – Tuesday to Saturday in the morning
  • Online Assessment Session: £45 per 50 min – weekday mornings (please check my booking page for current availability https://trueformtherapy.co.uk/book-a-session/ )
  • In-person sessions: £60 per 50 min – on Fridays in central Cardiff.

How can I arrange an appointment?

You can book your assessment session directly through my online booking system. Link: https://trueformtherapy.co.uk/book-a-session/

If we decide to continue working together after this session, we’ll agree on a time and day that suits both of us for ongoing sessions. We’ll also decide together how often to meet and whether sessions will be online or in person.

Where do in-person sessions take place?

In-person sessions are held in Cardiff city centre. Once we’ve agreed to start working together, I’ll share the full address and details with you.

Can I book a check-in session if I have suicidal thoughts?

If you are having suicidal thoughts and feel you are at risk of harm, this service will not meet your needs. I do not provide urgent or emergency support.

If you are in crisis, please contact Samaritans on 116 123, speak to your GP, or attend your local A&E. If you feel safe but uncertain and would like to speak about these feelings in a calm and non-judgemental setting, you are welcome to book. I may check in with you first to confirm that this session is appropriate.

What can I expect from online counselling sessions?

Online counselling offers the same level of support as in-person sessions, with the flexibility to connect from a space that feels comfortable to you. We’ll use a secure video platform to connect and explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences in a safe, confidential, and supportive environment.

Do I need any special equipment for online counselling?

All you need is:
✔ A device with internet access (computer, tablet, or smartphone)
✔ A stable internet connection
✔ A private, quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking freely

I will provide all the necessary instructions for accessing your session.

Is online counselling effective?

Yes! Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy. Many people find it more convenient and accessible, especially with busy schedules or when living in remote areas.

What happens if I have technical difficulties during an online session?

If you encounter any technical issues, I’ll be available to help troubleshoot. If the issue cannot be resolved, we can either reschedule or continue the session via phone if needed.

Do you offer evening or weekend sessions?

Yes. I currently offer in-person sessions on Friday evenings and online sessions on Saturday mornings. There is some flexibility depending on availability, so if you’re looking for a different time, please get in touch to discuss options.

What should I know before my session?

The therapy rooms are in Cardiff city centre, a short walk from the train station. There’s no free parking, but several paid car parks are close by.

If you need step-free access, I can arrange an accessible room. Just let me know in advance so this can be set up. There’s also a toilet available for client use.

The counselling rooms are calm and comfortable, with natural light and soft armchairs — a quiet space where you can settle in and feel at ease.
